Tribute to Gordon The thing that I remember most about Gordon was his passion for life and his determination to live it to the full. Parkinson’s took so many things from him but it never broke his spirit. He formed many friendships over the years he was a member of MABC… he truly belonged. Never failing to play in business house bowls, come along to club nights, quizz nights and many other social events. Unless he’d had a recent illness or stint in hospital Gordon was there. And when he was playing bowls, the energy he’d have! Gordon cared deeply about his friends at the bowls club, more concerned about how they were doing than his own illness. Gordon, AKA Flash, the way you lived every day the best you could was an inspiration. No matter what life threw at you found your way through it with grace and determination. We’re going to miss your humour, your cheekiness, your smile, your singing, your sticky date pudding, your company at Taco Loco. Rest in peace Gordon, we know you’re free now and smiling down from heaven. Love Nikki, Jim, Angus, Connor & Bri

I'm truly sad I can't be with you all today. I snuck into Gordy's life in 1960, his little bro. My first memory was Gordy having my back when my brothers egged me on to stand up in my highchair and I fell and ended up in hospital. Gordy was my roomie at Kimberley and when we moved to Parker Ave when farting competitions reached a new level! Every morning Gordy and I used to run for the school bus together. Gordy used to take me to Saturday morning rugby and gave me special nicknames: Seagull, butterfingers and used to shout "the try line's that way" or "can't catch". We both joined the athletics club at the Domain on Monday nights and little bro was starting to catch up... Gordy's 400m was on a par with Alan Kirk & Philip Husband but little bro also made the 4 x 400m relay team. We both kept fit by doing Mr Harvey's milk run at 4.30 in the morning before school (making out we hadn't done any pre-season). Gordy was an exceptional rugby player. He made the First XV in the 4th Form at Horowhenua College and was anchor in the front row, a Gary Knight looky-likey. Gordy's first flat shares (with Terry Tinney and Fletch) were legendary: "Tuna Lodge" (Waitarere) and "The Red Shield" (behind the Sally Army shop). When Gordy tried to "borrow" the family colour TV, dad's response was "not in that dump!" Little bro followed Gordy, joining him at the Waitarere SLC but little bro couldn't emulate Gordy's prowess ... Gordy was an excellent broach. Something Gordy particularly enjoyed was downing the yard glass and taking his clothes off, doing "The Full Monty" one night at the Oxford Hotel. The following Saturday mum and dad were getting ready to go out (usually for old time dancing with Boycey) and Gordy asked where they were going. Dad replied "we hear there's a good show at the Oxford"! Before leaving the Horowhenua Gordy played for Old Boy's against Wanderers and propping against his old mate Lance McDonald with Grant Swain refereeing, mum in her seat in the stand and Mrs Paul shouting for Wanderers. After matches they would end up at Jimmy O'Neil's where Grant would be pouring pints for Gordy and Lance. Those were just a few of the many happy times we had when we both lived in Levin. Rest in Peace, Gordy love from little bro, Bruce x BRUCE MCTAVISH

I was so saddened to hear of Gordon's death. I was so privileged to know him for a number of years as Chair of Skylight when I was the CE. He was a wonderful mentor - a special person with an added great sense of humour. He was such a brave man throughout his health challenges. My deepest thoughts are with his family whom he loved and always talked so highly of at every opportunity My sincere condolences Bice Awan
