Our beautiful Melanie passed away on New Year’s Eve after living for more than a year with breast cancer.
Melanie loved life, and lived it to the fullest. She was a Scottish highland dancer, a triathlete, a writer, a great cook, a talented knitter, a mom, a wife, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, a friend and a cat mom to so many cats, but especially to Mr Meow Meow. Her passion was teaching, and she travelled the world to do it. Creative, energetic, firm but kind, she truly loved helping children and teenagers learn. Her happiest days were spent with her beloved husband Harry and her cherished sons Cedric and Ezekiel, from whipping up complicated and delicious meals for them to adventuring with them around Canada, the U.S., Hawaii and New Zealand. To quote Paris Hilton, as Melanie often did, she was really “sliving it”.
She will be desperately missed by her father Mike and mother Shirley, her siblings Matthew, Christina, Andrew, Adrian and Monique, and her sisters and brothers in law Maud, Mike, Erin, Jennifer and Andy as well as her nieces and nephews Abigaël, Philippe, Thomas, Alexis, Isaac, Julia, Alex, Zoe, Michael, Madeleine, Clara, Iona and Sabina.
In addition to her immediate family, Melanie will also be missed by all the Antoines in Canada, her foreign exchange students Laura and Timo, and all of her friends and teaching colleagues in Canada and New Zealand.
An enormous thank you to the compassionate and caring staff at the Harbour Hospice North Shore for their kind and loving care for Melanie and her family. Thanks also to her New Zealand sisters Johnnie, Desirée and Tracy for their love and support.
A closed memorial service for family and friends will be held at Windsor Funeral home on Friday Jan. 3 at 10 a.m. (NZT)

Melanie was one of the sweetest, cheerful, and kindest teachers anyone could ask for but mostly my idol. I can still hear her voice when I read texts, and I miss the eye contact she'd make with us when she'd pick whoever was next, but what I hold onto the most was her passion to guide us towards our best selves. There aren't enough words to describe how amazing she was, and not nearly enough to express how hard it is to use was instead of is. I know that she will stay in our hearts forever and that her memory will push us to keep going. To Harry, Cedric, and Zeke I send my uttermost condolences with big big hugs as well as to everyone else who is struggling with the news. Last but not least, to Melanie, you impacted my life for the better, I couldn't have asked to meet a better person than you, and therefore, wish you nothing but peace and love in a heaven filled with books, cats, and all those you hold dear. With all the love and gratitude in the world, Charlotte

Melanie, we will miss your smile, laughter, and constant readiness to hit up St-Tim beach. You always made the boys welcome in your home, just as Zeke is always welcome in ours. Our hearts are broken for Harry, Cedric and Zeke. We are thinking of all the Beaudins and Antoines during this extremely difficult time and are sending so much love. Winston, Henri, Claudia and Al

Ms. Beaudin was my teacher a few years back now, but she stays in my mind as one the best I’ve had. She encouraged me to advance into a higher math class, helped me with everything I asked her with, whether it be about math homework, book recommendations (to which we exchanged with each other books such as “The Land of Stories”) and showed me that I was smart even if I felt that I wasn’t. Although I didn’t know her well, I know that she was incredibly kind and always made me feel happy once leaving her classroom. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me and others, you’ll won’t be forgotten.

One of the best English and Math teachers I ever had ❤️ she had the kindest soul and was patient with her students, uplifted us, and gave us confidence to succeed. She made me feel welcome when I first moved and switched schools, she even introduced to my best friend. I’ve always appreciated and adored her teachings. Her strength is admired and may she rest peacefully. You’ll be missed, Ms. Beaudin.

Our hearts are heavy for you Harry and family. Melanie was clearly a devoted, mother, wife and teacher. We have few words to offer and only open hearts to share. Melanie was always so supportive of all your endeavors Harry and it was very apparent the love you both shared. With love and great admiration, we offer our deepest condolences to you and the boys!

Miss. Beaudin taught my middle school English class, and even when we were being really annoying, she kept her cool and kind demeanour. I know she will be greatly missed and I offer my sincere condolences to everyone in her life.
